Why Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is based on the latest research

As Solution Focused Hypnotherapists, research is very important to us. We want to know that what we are doing with our clients really does work. So, if new evidence becomes available that suggests we need to change the way we work, then we will. Equally, there is good quality evidence to suggest that the Solution Focused approach is effective when used with hypnosis.

The scientific area of Neuroscience is steadily releasing the brain’s secrets. An organ of the body that was once considered to be of little importance. In the 4th century BC, Aristotle thought that the brain was a cooling mechanism for the blood. He also thought that the heart was the seat of intelligence. We have come a long way since then!

As Solution Focused Hypnotherapists (SFH) we base what we do on the latest brain research & neuroscience. Our aim is to help clients get back to being their true selves. At CPHT Stoke we make sure that our students understand the importance of research. How it helps us to become better therapists.  Everything within the course can be backed up by the latest research and neuroscientific endeavour.

National Research Programme

CPHT Stoke is part of a National research programme. This programme is called CORP or Clifton Practice Outcome Ratings Programme.

Hypnotherapy Research, CORP research, Compare results
CORP graph showing the difference between one practice and the average of all other therapists.

All our students are encouraged to take part in CORP. The majority of the first year membership cost is included in the course fees. It is the largest research programme of its type within the UK. CORP is designed to gather information on the effectiveness of SFH. However, it also reinforces the hypnotherapy sessions for the client in a positive & unobtrusive way. As a result, students and clients can observe their progress based on the client’s own figures. Obviously, this can be incredibly reassuring. Students can also see their improvement as they work with members of the public. There are many hypnotherapists now using CORP. It has amassed in excess of 25,000 hypnotherapy sessions to date. This gives students the wonderful ability to compare the progress of their clients against those of other hypnotherapists.

Phobias, learn how to help with CPHT Stoke

Phobias, CPHT Stoke, Hypnotherapy For Phobias

Students at CPHT Stoke love helping people lose their phobias. At this time of year, they are not short of clients with a fear of flying to practice on.

Aerophobia is the scientific name for a flying phobia. It is actually on the increase even though statistics suggest that flying is the safest mode of travel.  In fact,  as many as half of us have some kind of fear around flying & air travel. Although not all of these would be classed as a full-blown phobia.

Jenny Mellenchip,  one of the Senior Lecturers for CPHT Stoke, comments ‘The fear of flying is often more about the “what might happen” rather than what actually is happening‘. These thoughts trigger a reaction in the body that causes the person to be fearful and anxious.

‘Sometimes, just providing someone with factual information can help those who are a little nervous about getting on a plane. But for those who have a severe or phobic response, another approach is needed’

Learning how to reduce the impact of phobias

During CPHT Stoke hypnotherapy training we teach the rewind and reframe technique.  With this technique there is no need to know when the phobia started. This is useful for those people who believe that they’ve always just had a phobia. We start by demonstrating the process on a student.  This year, student Gareth wanted to get rid of his fear of paper. During the session with Gareth, Jenny got him to visualize his preferred future. In this case, Gareth chose to imagine a future where he would be able to read a newspaper without feeling nauseous. Together with relaxation therapy, Jenny helped Gareth to see things as if real. This was done without over exaggerating the risk. As a result the pattern that led to his phobic response was broken. He returned to the room after the break, holding a piece of paper in his hands. He was thrilled.

Our Clients are often relieved to learn that there are ways to help them. Phobias are something that can often be addressed quickly. It is such a powerful technique. Click here to find out what our clients say about us.
