Is hypnotherapy training expensive?

It is easy to look at the price of any training course and compare it against the cost of other courses. However, if you are trying to decide whether hypnotherapy training is expensive, there are several things to consider. If you are looking to start a new career as a self-employed hypnotherapist, the most important point to consider is how well will it equip you for that future career?

Are you encouraged to practice  on people with real conditions?

To become confident with any new skill we must practice it repeatedly. Typically, newly qualified CPHT Stoke students will have at least 200 hypnotherapy hours under their belt. They will see their anxious volunteers become much more relaxed. Their clients may lose weight or stop smoking. This is because students use the tried and tested techniques seen demonstrated in class. Ideal for helping them to become competent and confident in their craft.

Are your tutors available between modules to help support you?

If you learn something new, it is likely that you will have questions. When practicing new skills between modules, CPHT Stoke students are given support if they need it. They may need guidance as they help their clients. Some may need help to answer questions in the portfolio. Regardless of their needs, the tutors of CPHT Stoke are available to answer their questions.

What are the qualifications of your tutors? Are they still in practice?

When a tutor has their own practice, they are more likely to be up to date with the latest information. They will be familiar with issues facing self-employed hypnotherapists. The tutor will understand how best to market their business. Students can learn a lot by listening to tutors talk confidentially about their own cases. There are 2 permanent senior lecturers at CPHT Stoke, they are Jenny Mellenchip & Caron Iley.

Jenny Mellenchip has her own busy hypnotherapy practice in Stafford and online. Jenny is a qualified hypnotherapy supervisor.  She has held the AHD (Advanced Hypnotherapy Diploma), equivalent to a foundation degree for over 2 years. It is the highest hypnotherapy qualification in the UK.

Caron Iley is an award-winning hypnotherapist with a very busy practice in Bolton and online. Caron is a qualified hypnotherapy supervisor. She is currently studying towards the AHD.

At CPHT Stoke we also believe it is important to bring in other lecturers occasionally. These lecturers are experts in their field and help to provide variety for the students.

Will the course teach you the basics of running a business?

You can be great at what you do, but if nobody knows who you are, how will people find you? Marketing is an essential ingredient of the CPHT course. Course tutor, Jenny, is able to draw on her previous sales and marketing experience to give the students a good grounding in effective marketing. At CPHT Stoke, we also cover some basic accounting and data protection. These are both vital areas for students approaching self-employment for the first time.

Does the course allow you to pay as you learn?

When retraining for a new career money can be tight. We know it can be hard to come up with a lump sum to invest in your future career. This can be particularly difficult at the beginning of a training course. As you can’t yet see a return on your investment. At CPHT Stoke we understand this. We want to make it as easy as possible for you. After acceptance on the course, we ask for a deposit. This is followed by 9 further payments paid from modules 1 to 9. This spreads the cost of the course over 10 months. Thus making it more easily affordable for students.

One benefit of the CPHT Stoke course is that from module 7, you can start charging half price for your sessions with clients. This gives you the chance to earn back the cost of the course before you qualify in module 10. Students often do just that!

Are the qualifications nationally recognised and if so to what level?

It can be frustrating to attend a hypnotherapy training course and pay out good money, only to find that the course has been a waste of time. Make sure that the qualifications are nationally recognised. It is important that they are also accredited by the relevant awarding bodies.

There are two qualifications you can achieve on the CPHT Stoke course, the DfSFH and the HPD. The DfSFH (Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy) is a full diploma. It is accredited by the AfSFH (Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy). The HPD (Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma) is accredited by the NCH (National Council for Hypnotherapy). It is also verified by NCFE as a level 4 qualification on the UK’s national vocational framework. Both qualifications enable you to join the CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council). The CNHC is the UK voluntary regulator for complementary health practitioners.

How soon after the course is completed will I be able to go into business?

To qualify for the DSFH in module 10, you need to have attended all the modules. You will also need to have completed all the practical assessments.  As a result you will be able to begin your career as a self-employed hypnotherapist straight away. The HPD is achieved through submitting a portfolio of evidence. The portfolio consists of questions to answer, to showcase your knowledge. It also requires case studies to show your competence. Students of CPHT Stoke can submit any part of the online portfolio during the course. Case studies are done during the course. While many other schools expect them to be done after qualification.  This is because the course allows students to practice on people with conditions. After internal & external verification, the HPD, is awarded. The HPD is considered to be the gold standard qualification in the UK.

The impact of Covid-19 on Hypnotherapy Training by CPHT Stoke

If you are considering a hypnotherapy training course, you may be worried about the Covid-19 situation. You may be concerned that if it is held online, it may not be as effective as a face to face course. We decided to answer seven of the most popular questions here, to reassure your concerns.

Will the next training course be an online course due to Covid-19?

When we get the go-ahead from the Government, our course will return to being run as a face-to-face course as originally planned. This will be held in Trent House, Business Lodge, Stoke. However, at the moment we are not completely sure when that will be, so we are preparing for both eventualities. As the next course doesn’t start until March 2021. We are hopeful that we will be seeing students in person for the majority of the course, if not all of it.

Surely an online course won’t be as good as a face-to face course?

Live Video Conferencing

It’s important to make the distinction between an online course and a live video conference. When most people talk about an online course, they usually refer to having access to a number of videos that can be viewed online, at a time to suit them. There would normally be some written material to go with the videos and very little practical work. The tutors of CPHT Stoke, Jenny and Caron have been running CPHT Leeds during the Covid-19 pandemic. This has given them experience with the interactive  video conferencing platform, Zoom. Both tutors are available to answer your questions at all times during the weekend. We do everything that we would normally do in our face-to-face training sessions. This includes demonstrating the skills you will need and watching you practice those skills with fellow students. The weekend modules are very practical, full of variety, fun and entertaining.

How can the students practice the skills on each other in a video conference?

Zoom offers a break-out room facility. This enables us to pair students together to practice their skills. Caron and Jenny, the tutors, are able to pop into each room to see how you’re getting on and to offer  advice.

Will the qualification be considered as good as it would have been, had I attended the course in person?

The short answer is yes. At the start of the pandemic, CPHT got in touch with the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH). They were already in discussions with the Complementary & National Healthcare Council (CNHC). The NCH and CNHC are actively involved in shaping the standards and future of hypnotherapy in the UK. Both organisations have granted dispensation to all those courses being run during the Covid-19 outbreak to be held online. They have assured us that graduates during this time will obtain the same level of accreditation as those who have attended face-to-face training sessions previously.

You say that there will be a lot of variety, but we’ll be staring at a screen for two full days at a time, that can’t be fun surely?

Our face-to-face sessions use a variety of teaching styles to hold the attention of the students. As any good quality course would do. The same practice applies to our online sessions. We incorporate a mix of video, power point, lecturer-led and small group activities for the students.  This is supplemented by practical work between modules. This is just as it would be were we to meet in person. Breaks are held at regular intervals, to allow students to get up and move around.

Will the course be any cheaper if it is held online?

The price of the course is to enable you to take advantage of obtaining the two qualifications on offer with CPHT Stoke. The DSFH (Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy) and the HPD (Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma). We know that some of our costs will reduce if a course is held  online, while other costs will inevitably increase. You, however, will probably find it cheaper & less time-consuming to attend training via a live video conference. This is due to less traveling with potentially fewer accommodation costs.

Have you held a course online like this before?

Yes, Jenny & Caron, the tutors of CPHT Stoke, also run CPHT Leeds. The 2019/2020 course run in Leeds, started out with students attending a local venue, as had always been the case before the Covid-19 situation. After module 7 we had to move to live video conference sessions using Zoom. After some initial trepidation on hearing that we would need to move to online training, the students fully embraced the experience. They were heard to state after the module that it had been just as good as if they attended the module in person. The current Leeds course(LS5) is currently online but hopes to move to face to face sessions shortly.

Will I be able to work online after I qualify?

Yes, one of the great things about training as a hypnotherapist, is that it is just as effective as seeing clients face to face. Distance is no object when you become a hypnotherapist online. You will be able to see clients from America to Zambia if you choose. Students have found that the extra experience they have gained because of Covid-19 has helped their online careers too.
